“Milk was a bad choice…”
Wrong about the fact that Georgia would put together a full team effort today. Wrong about the fact Washaun Ealey would have a breakout game. Wrong about the fact our defense was improving. The only thing Im right about? Boy our special teams did have on heck of a day, didn’t they?
It looks like this is going to be a long season for the Dawgs. I hate to say it but something has got to change. I am ever the Bulldawgs optimist but even I know that we cannot compete week in and week out with this kind of playing and coaching. Mark Richt in some ways is the best coach in college football. He has to make some changes within his staff though. Our offense is going nowhere fast. One offensive TD in the past two weeks. Unaccpetable. The defense. Well, I am no defensive genius but even I could figure out a way to stop the play-action rollout after the first two times. Time and time again the defense just failed to make plays when they needed t0. Change has got to come.
I love Mark Richt more than any other coach in the nation. He is respected by every coach for the way he commands himself on and off the field. Something has to change with him. He has to become a better motivator. The team this year looks flat. There is no “swagger” as people like to say. The team that rushed the field at Florida and put up three strait games with 40 or more points had swagger. We have to get our “swag” back. That might mean yelling a little more or showin some emotion on the sideline. Football is an emotional game, its ok to show emotion. Look at Urban Meyer. Look at Les Miles, Nick Saban and countless others. They all show their emotions and all have top 5 programs every year. I dont know if it is because Richt thinks people will think less of him if he yells or what, but it kills me that while the Dawgs are not doing well – or for that matter doing well – he continues to stand there with the same expression on his face. A little emotion would be nice every now and then.
As for the offensive and defensive coordinators. I hate to question coaching. Obviously these guys know a lot about football or they would’t have gotten the job in the first place but something has got to give. I cannot handle many more games like Tennessee. The offense was non-existent and the defense continued to let the quarterback rollout and beat us with his arm. Crompton is not a great quarterback, he has struggled greatly this year and Georgia made him look like a Heisman Trophy candidate. Its hard to say that you want these guys fired. I want Georgia to win is what I want. Whatever method needs to be taken to make us win I will be happy with. Georgia has too many athletes to let the talent go to waste. Mark Richt was a great offensive mind for years, maybe its time for Bobo to go back to quarterbacks and leave the play calling to Richt. I dont know exactly what to do with Willie. I thought he could find the strokes of brilliance he showed a few years ago, but I have found that I think not. We need to spend as much money as we can to get Brian Van Gorder back to the Dawgs – he was a great defensive mind and had that excitement that Georgia football needs.
Finally, although this loss is tough and hurts the Bulldawg nation bad, we have to continue to support the players and the team. There is nothing I would love more than to win out the rest of the season. That would still be 10 wins. Is it possible, yes. Is it likely, probably not. I want the Bulldog nation to continue to be just as loud and just as proud. Its still great to be a Georgia Bulldog, I know I wouldnt want to be anything else – especially one of those Florida Gators.
Until next time, “You stay classy Classic City.”
